WSP: 53 people alive because of weekend DUI arrests

State, County and City law enforcement arrested 53 drivers for suspicion of driving drunk this weekend across Snohomish County.

Trooper Keith Leary tells KOMO News the arrests were part of the 1000 stars emphasis patrol.

Leary said troopers themselves made 33 of those arrests, but did not respond to any DUI related fatal accidents over the weekend.

“Our goal is to get to drivers before they make the wrong decision or choose to disregard all of our warnings and still get behind the wheel,” said Trooper Leary in an email.

Leary said 53 people in Snohomish County are alive this week before Christmas due to the hard work of law enforement this weekend.

“Every DUI driver arrested is a life considered saved,” said Leary.

WSP troopers arrested 48 people as part of the emphasis across Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom and Island Counties this weekend and 251 statewide.
